MOTOS (Members on Their Own)

Many members of U3A live alone and find that social activities can become restricted .This group intends to resolve that.We have adopted a wide definition of "on their own".It includes singles,divorced and separated people widows and widowers but also those whose spouse or partner cannot accompany them. So far we have enjoyed walks followed by a pub lunch, ABBA tribute night, afternoon teas and concerts at the Bridgewater Hall.Members have also enjoyed a trip to see Concorde at Manchester airport where we learnt many interesting facts including that Concorde is registered for weddings!An intrepid bunch travelled to Bruges where we were rewarded with a beautiful autumn day to enjoy this most beautiful medieval town. We have enjoyed several other short breaks - London, the North East and Paris. Come and join us and tell us what you would like to do. Suggestions so far include more walks and pub lunches, day trips, weekends away, evening meals out, concerts, social evenings, holidays and even trips to Latics away matches.

THE ALBERT DOCK AND FLOATING GRACE
Thursday 9th May 2019

Arrive at the Royal Albert Dock about 10.30- 11.00am to enjoy time as you wish. Visit The Beatles Story {additional cost}, Tate Liverpool{free entry except for special exhibitions} or the Maritime museum {free} or just browse the shops and cafes. At 2pm we board Floating Grace - Liverpool's only floating restaurant and bar boat - for a 90 minute sail whilst enjoying a welcome glass of bubbly and a 2 course meal before returning home

A GRAND DAY OUT IN CHESHIRE

Travel to Anderton Boat lift. Time to explore the exhibits and have tea/coffee {at your own cost} before boarding a boat and travelling on the lift. Then enjoying a soup and sandwich lunch.

Then on to Jodrell Bank where we will have an introductory talk before visiting the site with audio guides.We will then gather for afternoon tea before returning

SHORT BREAK IN LONDON

4 nights accommodation at The Bull Hotel Gerrards Cross. Founded in 1688 as a coaching inn,it does now have modern comforts,free wi-fi,en suite bedrooms,TV and tea/coffee making facilities in bedrooms.Full English breakfast and a 3 course choice menu dinner with tea/coffee

Day 1 Travel to hotel with a stop { About 2 hours} in Coventry to view the sights and enjoy lunch

Day 2 Travel to the Royal Hospital Chelsea for a tour led by one of the Chelsea Pensioners.Then free time in Chelsea. Perhaps visit the Physic garden, the Saatchi Museum of Modern Art or simply stroll along the Kings Road

Day 3 Travel to Hampton Court Palace. We will have an individual audio guide to help us explore. Perhaps attempt the famous maze. We will return mid afternoon so we can rest or visit the charming town of Gerrards Cross and it's charity shops which have a very high calibre of donated items

Day 4 Travel to Windsor castle again with individual audio guides.Then some time at leisure in Windsor before embarking on a cruise on the Thames whilst enjoying afternoon tea

Day 5 Travel to Highgate cemetery for a guided tour.Then enjoy a two course lunch before making the journey home

RIVER CRUISE SHREWSBURY AND BRITISH IRONWORKS MUSEUM

We travel to Shrewsbury and board the Lady Sabrina for a cruise while enjoying tea/coffee.We then have approx 90mins to explore Shrewsbury and have lunch{at own cost} before travelling to British Ironworks museum and Shropshire sculpture park.There is much to see and we should be able to watch craftsmen at work.At 4pm we have scones with jam and cream and a cup of tea before returning home

SPRINGTIME IN PARIS

Door to door service with porterage

Day 1.Travel to Ashford {with stops for refreshment at own cost} for an overnight stay in a single room at the Holiday Inn Ashford.Dinner is included

Day 2.After an included breakfast carry on to Folkestone for Eurotunnel crossing to Calais and proceeding to the village of Bully-les-mines for a two course lunch with tea/coffee.Onwards to Paris where we will settle into our indivdual cabins on MS Botticelli which is moored near the Eiffel Tower
The ship has recently been renovated.It has lounge bar with dance floor,bar,dining room and sun deck.Each cabin is en suite,air conditioned and has a hair dryer,TV and safe.We enjoy 3 nights dinner,breakfast and lunch on board.

Day 3.Guided coach tour of Paris highlights,eg Louvre,Arc de Triomphe,Champs Elysees etc.with an English speaking guide.After lunch on board, the afternoon is free for you to do what you want

Day 4. Guided coach tour of Old Montmartre and Sacre Coeur with English speaking guide.After lunch,the afternoon is free.

On one evening we will enjoy a Paris by night cruise

Day 5. After breakfast we leave Paris for our homeward journey
