Cycling
The Cycling Group meets every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month, weather permitting. Rides are of approximately 18 miles on public roads or canal towpaths. Gradients are usually moderate but ride details indicate the nature of each specific outing. Road, touring or hybrid bikes are suitable and a growing number of the group now has battery-assisted bikes. This is a mixed and friendly group with varying levels of experience - new members are very welcome.
The group sets a relaxed pace and stresses the social aspect with much emphasis on the mid-ride refreshment stop: allow 3-4 hours for the ride from a 10.30 start unless otherwise notified. A 6 month programme is agreed by group members and we try to vary the location and nature of the rides, alternating flat and hillier terrain. On cycling group rides the wearing of cycle helmets is compulsory.
