Theatre and Film Group
Following our first gathering in February 2023 to watch Something' Gotta Give, the response has been very good and we have been able to set out a plan of events.
Firstly, we need to establish the membership of the group. So far we have a list of nearly 60 members who have asked to join. These are those who attended the meeting and film; those who replied to our invitation but were unable to attend and those who have approached us subsequently.
A letter was sent to all u3a members to enable anybody who has not yet asked to join to contact us. Whilst we welcome all members to join this group, it is important for the organisation of events that we know the number of people we are dealing with. Therefore, future communications from us will be sent only to those we have on our list. Naturally, we will welcome new joiners at any time.
Probably the easier events to organise are films and we have planned these to the end of the year. For now we have chosen to show one every 2 months (except December) and these will be at the Methodist Church meeting room, gathering from 1.30pm for 2.00pm starts. We 'pay as we go' so the cost will be for the room between £1 and £2, depending on the attendance. It is possible that keen film-goers might like to meet more regularly and we will fit around members' ideas.
Dates 13th April Pyjama Game
22nd June Vera Drake
24th August The Grand Seduction
19th October Cabaret
23rd November It's A Wonderful Life
NOVEMBER 2023 THE FILM GROUP HAS GONE INTO ABEYANCE DUE TO DWINDLING NUMBERS
This timetable will accomodate theatre and musical events in the months between. We are researching possibilities for May and July and will announce these soon. A notable result from the questionnaire we arranged was a clear preference for local events, particularly with a view to transport. So, for the time being we will concentrate on the Scarborough/Filey/ Bridlington area, which is so full of entertainment talent. Please contact us with any questions).
