Play Reading 2
Play Reading group 2
The second play Filey U3A reading group was started in May 2014 when the original group was full and unable to accept any new members. I asked for advice from the leader of the from the well established and experienced Filey U3A reading group, and she pointed out the feature in the U3A handbook book advertising the collection of printed plays written by talented U3A members countrywide and available to buy and use. The first Filey U3A reading group had already acquired several of the U3A plays, which they phot-copied and had enjoyed reading out, so I followed suit, I chose different U3A plays and we agreed on a policy of exchanging U3A plays in the future.
At our first meeting there were just three of us and we were able to act out two very different plays with only two characters, before discussing at length the individual personalities, the plots, with varying opinions and comments of the writers intentions. It was revealing and enjoyable.
Later there were five of us, but most plays employ six or seven or more actors, we decided to read poetry and chose topical commemorative war poets, the brutally geographically honest verses of Seigfreid Sassoon and the sentimental and emotional poems of Wilfred Owen and Rupert Brooks.
At the final two meetings we chuckled our way through the writings of Joyce Grenfell and Pam Ayres, we discovered a flair for mimicry and promised our selves more of that in times to come.
From June 2023, we meet monthly on a Wednesday from 7pm at 55 Filey Fields
MARCH 2024 It is with great regret that due to falling numbers the PLAYREADING Group is now in ABEYANCE
