U3A HANDICRAFTS GROUP
The U3A crafters are a group of people interested in developing skills or learning new crafts. We are a friendly and informal group and we are not all experienced crafters.
We were without a Group Organiser for over 12 months but we found someone (Linda Evans) with extensive crafts experience who was willing to "Lead" the group. Meetings were held at Filey Bowls Club, every 2nd and 4th Wed, from 2-4pm, starting on 14 Feb 2018.
Linda initially taught "Needle Felting" and this particular craft offers an endless variety of things you can create through the lovely medium of Wool Rovings.
As of 1 April 2019 we had 12 active members and so the group was full.
A waiting list was opened.
July 2020. The HANDICRAFTS group was not able to continue with Linda Evans as co-ordinator. Due to
health issues she was no longer be able to lead the group but is happy to lend her aid
via the phone or email. We wish to thank her for running the group and wish her all
the best for her future health.
Sept 2021. We have a new group. Christine Keir-Thompson has agreed to lead it. Initially it will concentrate on crochet and knitting and will explore other skills for inclusion.
November 2021. The Handicrafts group has now re-started and most members are either learning, or
brushing up their skills in how to crochet. A few others, a little more
experienced, are attempting Tunisian crochet patterns. The group hopes to
encompass other crafts, not just needlecrafts, in the future.
