The group meets fortnightly on Mondays from 2.30-4.30 Each session is introduced by a group member who provides some informed information. A discussion on a huge variety of subjects followed by an informal and lively exchange of views.
The room will be arranged like a boardroom with a long table in the centre and chairs around the outside. We will try to socially distance and I am going to wear a mask on entering and leaving the building but I will take my mask off to lead the session. It is up to everyone to make a decision about their own mask wearing.
There are the usual ‘ladies and gentlemen’ facilities.
We discuss everything and anything. Topics in the recent past have included the environment, the conflict in Ukraine, climate crisis, driverless cars, the cost of living, the energy crisis, the purpose of euphemisms, holiday homes, the NHS, the pandemic, and Brexit!
The leader will normally circulate three or four topics for discussion by email two or three days before our meeting. We then discuss one topical issue which has been ‘consuming’ any member in recent days – this can be anything from litter left by tourists to migrant deaths in the English Channel. Finally, we take one written question “From the Hat” which has been offered by a group member.
The cost for each session is £1 and we accept 20p from anyone who would like to have a cup of tea or coffee at the interval.
