Events

Registration day – Registration day for the 2019 - 2020 season will be Friday 6th September. However new or existing members can pay membership dues at coffee mornings at any time from now on, the membership will then run until end of August 2020. So new members joining in April will get up to 5 months free!

Coffee mornings take place every month at St John Ambulance Hall, usually on the third Saturday of the month. See below for future dates and times.

Monthly lectures take place at St John Ambulance Hall and cover a variety of topics. Details of forthcoming lectures are given below - see the Monthly Lecture Group page in the section headed "Groups" for further details.

Outings – Regular outings are organised - see below for details.

Cost £26.00. Includes cost of coach, visit to Mainsgill Farm including a two course lunch, followed by entrance to Thornton Hall Gardens.

Meet regularly on the 1st Saturday in each month at 10 am in the Pavilion Café, so the next meeting will be on July 6th.

Wed Jul 10thSocialOur Summer Quiz will be held this year at the Pavilion on Wednesday 10th July from 2.30pm. Tables will be from 6-8 per team (maximum 8).

Sat Jul 13thOutingThe Music Appreciation Group are having a concert outing to Scarborough on Saturday July 13th.
The coach will leave at 5.30 p.m. and will cost £8, and tickets for the concert can be purchased on the door for £9.50.

The Scarborough Symphony Orchestra will play Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Neilsen’s Piano Concerto, and Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony.

Wed Jul 17thSocialFollowing their popular event last year, Neil Kershaw and his family are planning another Car Treasure Hunt. It will start from Endeavour Wharf off Lansdowne Road in Whitby and finish at a “hostelry you will discover when you get there”. More details will be available from Neil at the coffee morning.
Mon Jul 22ndSocialDon Readman will lead a “Summer Walk with Views”, starting at 10am. Park on the roadside near the Mallyan Spout Hotel in Goathland, and the walk will be three and a half miles long, climbing gently to Hunt House, then via Hazel Head Farm, Hollin House Farm, and New Wath Farm back to the starting point. Don has emphasised that there will be no steep climbs and it won’t be as hard as Ramblers walks, but you will need boots or strong shoes. After the walk there will be the opportunity for lunch at the Mallyan Spout Restaurant, £15 per person for 2 courses plus coffee or tea. Contact Don on 01947 820245 if you would like to go.
Wed Jul 24thWorkshopOn July 24th and August 28th members of the Scarborough Advanced Motorists are willing to observe your driving for 20 minutes in your own car and help you correct any minor faults you have developed.

This is NOT a TEST , there are no failures, just helpful hints

Mon Aug 5thSocialA Summer Garden Walk and Cream Tea afternoon has been arranged by Joyce Stangoe for Monday 5th August. Starting at Abbeville Avenue, via Saxon Road, it will finish at White Point Court Gardens where tea will be served. There is a small charge of £5 and please note there is no parking available at Abbeville Avenue. Speak to Joyce at the coffee morning or by phoning 07868 956919 if you would like to go.
Tue Aug 13thOutingThere is an excursion to Aysgarth Falls planned for Tuesday August 13th, a summer trip that might appeal to walkers, photographers, anyone who wants a day out in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

Tue Sep 17thOutingWHITBY WHALERS TRAVEL GROUP

Tues 17th Sept. 2019 - Hepworth Wakefield art museum and sculpture part.

This is free entry but there is a 45-minute tour costing £8 which is highly recommended.

The plan is to stop here for coffee with time for the tour or a look around.

Then back on the bus for the short trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, there is a lot going on here with lots of installations, a fabulous opportunity to see the work of well-known artists.

We will have lunch here whether that be at the café or the restaurant, we may pre-book a lunch should people like to do that? We would leave around 3pm and arrive back home around 5pm

October Date TBC- Himalayan Gardens near Ripon.

We thought about returning to enjoy these beautiful gardens in autumnal colours and light.

There is a lot to see including 70 sculptures, 3 lakes and woodlands so it might appeal to walkers as well as the art, photography and gardening groups or anyone who would enjoy a day out.

They have a restaurant so we can enjoy lunch here too.

The group price is £8 per person bus to be arranged.

Ann Jackson is looking into a trip to London to see the Tutankhamun Exhibition.

This is an overnight stop in London the cost will be £99 and that covers the coach fare, entry to the museum, and a night in a b&b with some free time in London.

Speak to Anne at a coffee morning, she is taking bookings and will need a £20 deposit if you want to go.
