French (advanced) on Zoom
“ADVANCED FRENCH ON ZOOM”
This group started as an experiment at the beginning of the lockdown and has been going strongly ever since.
A typical session would include discussing a French film we have all watched during the week (86, so far), talking about a theme chosen in advance which members have researched independently (e.g. topical social and political issues, historical events, news items) reading short stories (Maupassant, Mérimé) for enjoyment and vocabulary acquisition.
Now and again, each one of us gives a presentation on a theme (e.g. a painter, a town, an actor, a historical character, a building) or on aspects of a theme (e.g. The French Renaissance: literature, architecture, history, music, science). We have covered a vast range of topics (from Charlemagne, to Pascal, the Dreyfus case and French colonialism).
Eclectic, cultural and always great fun. In spite of all the “homework” and commitment required, the group is currently full and nobody is thinking of dropping out.
