Wine Appreciation One (WAGS 1)
After the relaxation of the covid regulations, the group
did not meet at all during the Summer months, apart
from a very successful and enjoyable Jubilee Party in
July. Outstanding holiday and family commitments,
and some illness being the causes. We finally got
going in the Autumn and October saw the group
enjoying a presentation from Maggie and Steve - I cannot say what the wine was like,
because I was on holiday at the time, but I'm sure that
it was well up to standard and Denise, who supplied
the cheese and biscuits, always provides a good
selection. In November Sari and Stephen did
the honours, comparing Cremont against Cava, a
Sauvignon Blanc from SE. Australia with one from the
Cape Town area and, finally, a Chilean Merlot from the
Central Valley with a Mcguigan Black Label, again from SE. Australia. They also provided
the cheese and biscuits so had a busy evening for what may well turn out to be our last
visit to The Gallery at The Athenaeum as we are due to return to the recently re-opened
Organ Inn in the New Year. December saw some of us enjoying a pre-Christmas party at
my house, instead of the usual monthly meeting. Unfortunately, only seven of us gathered
for this as covid and that terrible cough/cold claimed the rest, but we had a marvellous
spread of delicacies and nibbles washed down with mulled wine and Christmassy drinks.
This all seems a long time ago and now we are looking forward to what this year holds in
our new/old venue - we hope it turns out well
