French 2
We Know You Love France, So Why Not Join French Group 2??
The members of French Group 2 meet on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 2.00 p.m., sometimes at the Dog & Duck, and sometimes at someone’s home.
The programme runs a bit like this:
- Each of us say a couple of sentences about what we’ve been doing, or a story about something that has happened to us, or a book we’ve enjoyed – in fact, anything we like! (There’s no obligation to do this.)
- Reading a text from a magazine and listening to it on a CD.
- Reading aloud and translating a chapter from a book – at the moment, “Le Petit Nicolas” by Sempé-Goscinny.
- Reading aloud and translating a Satellite booklet published jointly by the BBC and Longman Group Limited
- Looking at points of grammar, and noting new words
- (We aim to do more listening!)
In the past we have listened to French songs, done a crossword puzzle, played a form of “I Spy”, picked out cities on a map of France, and explained how to get from A to B on a town plan, and watched French films.
We could really do with a couple more members, and it doesn’t matter what level you are.
- If you are advanced, great – you can teach us something.
- if you are intermediate, you’ll fit in very well.
- if you are a complete beginner, you’ll be catered for. All you’d need to do is to learn the present tense of four key verbs: TO BE, TO HAVE, TO DO, and TO GO, plus a few bits of vocab, and you can start forming sentences. YOU CAN START SPEAKING!
