Art Group
Our art group has a very relaxed collection of people attending, we chat a lot. We paint or draw whatever we like, we could choose a subject from books we have, we could set up a still life, we could bring a mirror to do a self portrait, make up a picture from our heads, draw one of the beautiful geranium /pelargonium, that the OSCA hall boasts, or once in a while we get a model to sit for us. At one time, I used to set various subjects, but I found people generally prefer doing their own thing.
We each purchase our own art materials, which can be quite expensive. As regards painting, I usually get people to start with acrylic because it is so easy to paint mistakes out, removing all the anxiety that watercolour can give people. Of the different media, people can use pastels of various types, collage, watercolour, coloured pencils, acrylics, chalk and charcoal. Oils could also be used, but low odour medium would be needed. On this page you can see a selection of work from some of our members.
I am happy to help anyone who wishes to have help, by giving advice with mixing colour, working out perspective, composition, light and shade. I also try to spot what is wrong when people know something is a little bit out, but are unsure what it is.
Occasionally we have a professional artist demonstrate their art to us. It is incredible watching as an amazing picture appears from nowhere. The artists often bring other paintings available for us to purchase at very advantageous prices.
The cost to attend our U3A art group is £1.00 per week, this money is payable a month in advance, meaning there will usually be £4.00 or £5.00 to pay at the beginning of each month, this also covers our all important tea/coffee and biscuits and any demonstrations we might organise.
We meet on Tuesday mornings at 10:00 until usually somewhere around 12:30, depending on how early the Tuesday afternoon singers are planning to start.
Our group is full at present. Contact the group leader Carole Crosby if you are interested.
