Music Study
Don’t be afraid of the name. We are a small group of lovers of ‘classical’ music and we called ourselves the Music Study Group because we wanted to follow a programme of specific composers, music of a certain period or country or a specific genre in order to put it into context. You don’t need to know music theory or play an instrument, and we don’t study scores. Over the years we have enjoyed music by Handel, Haydn, Mozart., Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, music of France, music of Russia, music of Spain, church music, the concerto – to name but a few! - and at the moment we are listening to music by women composers, who have been neglected in the past, but are now coming to the fore.
We meet approximately fortnightly in members’ homes, and one or more of us presents the music using CDs, DVDs and/or YouTube. We have unfortunately lost several members recently for age-related reasons and are currently a very small group but are keen to continue. We would welcome anyone interested in joining us.
If you are a member of our u3a and would like to join this group or would like further details, please contact the group leader by clicking on the blue pigeon in the right hand margin. For non-members please contact the Groups Co-ordinator.
