Parler Français
Parler Français with Monique Allen.
Having recently moved to Lincolnshire and after talking to someone about u3a, I decided to join, not only to meet people but also to see if I could help in any way. A leader for the French group was required so, as a French person, I volunteered to help run this new group.
The Parler Français group has been running since 13 November 2023 and now has 14 members who are very keen to rekindle their knowledge of my mother tongue but also to have some fun through learning again. We base our meetings on comprehension, communication, reading, listening, playing games, using a book, without forgetting some easy written homework on subjects relating to essential vocabulary. Any new members would be very welcome of course. To be with people of that age group who want to go out and to continue learning, to want to improve their knowledge, to want, as I see it, to open the doors to that small cupboard in their brain where all information from the past is already stored and to carry on improving, is absolutely amazing!
This u3a experience has taught me so much in such a short time and brought so much enjoyment that I decided to stop feeling like a person from the third age era so have already joined a couple of groups. What a great journey ahead of us all if we make the most of what the u3a has to offer. Meeting some wonderful people in the process is a bonus. I also want to thank the team at u3a for trusting me.
