Russian Reading Circle
TUESDAY
Russian Reading Circle - Русский круг чтения
We are first and foremost a reading group. We read and translate orally into English Russian Short Stories from the 19th century through to the present day. We read mainly works by 19th century classic authors such as Chekhov, Dostoyevsky, Gogol, Lermontov, Leskov, Pushkin, Saltykov-Shchedrin, Tolstoy and Turgenev. However, we intend to include more 20th -century works by less familiar Soviet and Russian writers such as Babel, Bryusov, Bunin, Gorky, Grinevsky, Ilya Ilf, Zamyatin and Zoshchenko.
We also read current affairs items from BBC Russian News, ”Angliya” (the news website for Russian expatriates in the UK) and news websites based in Russia. Difficult grammatical points are revised. We are a self-instructing group but also learn from each other. Please contact the Convenor if you would like to join this Group.
Twice a year we lunch in an East European restaurant.
