London South East

Welcome to U3A South East London

During the current health crisis most of our groups have suspended their meetings. Some groups are meeting via Zoom and other online methods. We will update the situation as information becomes available.

U3A South East London encourages lifelong learning in an informal and sociable setting. Our members come from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences. Everyone is welcome – no qualifications are required and none are given. We learn simply for pleasure.

All our groups are led by volunteers, who want to share their interest or knowledge with others. We also welcome visiting speakers on specialist subjects. Click on the Groups tab above to find out more about our groups.

Our activities mainly take place in the London Boroughs of Lewisham and Greenwich. Classes are held at Goldsmiths University of London, community centres and members' homes from Eltham in the East, to Herne Hill in the West. We are one of more than 900 independent U3As across the country.

We in U3A South East London now have some 500 members and around 83 activity groups. You can participate in as many available activities as you wish. Some groups might be full and you may be asked to join a waiting list. Your annual subscription allows you to join any group without further charge. There is a small additional charge for Friday talks, but apart from that the only extra costs are for materials, travel, tickets and personal expenses.

All groups are run by members with help from a small committee; we receive practical support from Goldsmiths University of London and financial support for some projects from Positive Ageing Lewisham, both of which are very much appreciated.
