Welcome to U3A South East London

U3A SOUTH EAST LONDON

Welcome to South East London U3A! Part of a 1,000-strong nationwide network of independent U3As, affiliated to the Third Age Trust, our aim is to promote and celebrate lifelong learning. Activities are centred around interest groups, meeting in sociable, informal settings. Our 500+ members come from a wide range of backgrounds. All are welcome – the only qualifications are enthusiasm and curiosity. We currently run 66 interest groups, meeting in community centres and members’ homes, mainly across the Boroughs of Lewisham and Greenwich. A few groups meet online Whether you want to learn a language, become creative, get fit, stretch your mind, explore your area or just make new friends in a relaxed setting, we hope you will find something of interest.

How does it work? All activities are run by member volunteers, who are enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge or interests with like-minded members. We also welcome visiting speakers. There are opportunities to volunteer on the Committee, or be a Group Leader. Occasionally a group is full – then you may be put on a waiting list, or form a new group if you are so inclined! For a modest annual subscription you can join as many of these activities as you like. There are no other charges, except for Friday talks, materials, refreshments and tickets.

As part of a nationwide network of U3As, you will also have access to National and Regional Study Days, Summer Schools, Shared Learning Projects, and, during lockdown, online talks and courses being offered by members all over the country. You will also receive a regular publication, Third Age Matters, and weekly event updates.
