The U3A Computer Club started again after the enforced break!
Computers and the Internet have proved invaluable during the last 18 months, providing a way of keeping in touch with the world via video meetings and personal calls, online shopping and banking as well as accessing information and entertainment.
Now that we are starting to get going again we are planning to have two kinds of sessions:
1. Class sessions: Taking the form of lectures or talks, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
Venue. St Mary's Centre, Eltham High Street.
Time. 10:30 am to 12:30.
9th September 2021. Anti-virus and anti-malware. Looking at why anti virus and anti malware is needed for a computer, and is it better to pay for such services or can you rely on the free versions?

This session will explore what a back up is and which backup strategy might be appropriate for you.
7th October 2021. Mobile phones. Smartphones are a wonder of modern technology, cramming into a small format more computing power than could even have been dreamt of in the 70s.
This session will look at a few of the issues that should concern owners. Getting the Settings correct, how to safeguard privacy, caution about using public WiFi, the importance of installing software updates, finding and installing Apps. And as much more as we can cram in.
21st October 2021. Using computers to store photographs. In this session we will see how to transfer photographs from cameras and phones to computers. Should you and how can you use the cloud to store photographs. What Photo managing software should you use?

18th November 2021. Cloud computing what is it? The computing cloud was being talked about constantly a few years ago, now as a result of the pandemic cloud computing is normalised. So what is it? Do you use it already? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Are there any advantages to you? How easy is it to set up and maintain?
2. Tailor made 1 to 1 sessions by arrangement from 1st September 2021:
If you have a problem using a computer, or difficulties using a piece of software, we may be able to advise you. Send an email to U3AComputerClub@gmail.com quoting your membership number, telling us if you would like help with anything.
If we are able to help, we can arrange a meeting at a convenient coffee shop or a library for a one-to-one session, for one to two hours.
If you have used Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Meeting or Skype, you might prefer to arrange a virtual session at a convenient date and time. If you have a tower or desk top computer, this option might suit you best.
