The Eltham book group is currently meeting fortnightly Tuesday mornings on Zoom and we have room for up to 2 new members.
We read mainly novels from the classics up to current authors. Occasionally we choose a short story, a poem, or a biography or watch a video of a book we have read. We choose by consensus and we take it in turn to "present" a book, which involves finding out about the author and any relevant background. We usually take between two to four sessions to cover a book, taking it in turns to read selected extracts aloud.
We are a very friendly and relaxed group, and would not expect a new member to "lead" for a while, or pressure anyone to do so. We are currently reading " Waterland" by Graham Swift and our next book will be "A long petal of the sea" by Isabel Allende. Then our next book will be "The Yellow House" by Martin Gayford and after that "Hamnet" by Maggie O'Farrell.
