Heatons & Reddish

Drama

The drama group started in 2014 with 4 members plus me, the Leader of the group. Initially I did some acting master classes with the group; (to break down inhibitions!!) and taught them some stage craft. After a short time I decided to ‘put on’ a one-act play, which was a North Country comedy for 4 players. The second half of the evening was filled with the U3A Ukulele band. Since then we have gone from strength to strength. We have put on at least 2 productions a year, attended master classes at The Lowry theatre in Salford, culminating in a North West U3A Groups sketch show at the Lowry. Attended master classes at a theatre in London’s West end; performed at U3A’s regional conference in Liverpool. We have recently performed our first Murder Mystery at the West Heaton Tennis Club where we rehearse and have been asked to perform another one this year, which we are now entering into rehearsal for. We have now got 12 regular members, but borrow other actors from a local drama society and Tennis players from the Tennis club, who have aspirations to be actors. We always need helpers, particularly back stage and front of house, there is always a lot to do. If you are interested please contact me via the link on the website.

The group meets from 1.30pm to 3.30pm the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month at The West Heaton Tennis, Bowls and Squash Club on Princes Road.
