We meet on the first and third Fridays of the month from 2-4pm at the Heaton Mersey Community Centre SK4 3BR

The drama group was founded in 2016. It is now unique in the area, because although most U3As have play reading groups, we are the only U3A in the region that has a group involved in dramatic productions. We do get up on stage, move about, learn lines and breathe life into the characters in a story. We aim to work as a supportive team with everybody helping out with all the tasks, publicity, refreshments, costumes, props, prompting etc.

Our productions are varied from one Act plays, sketches, monologues, seasonal shows and Murder Mysteries. We sometimes write our own material. For example our last show was a pantomime for the Christmas U3A coffee morning, written by one of our members.

We enjoy working in collaboration with other groups, like the Creative writing group, the Ukulele band and the Sing-along singers. Sometimes we include food along with the production, for instance our next play is a Murder Mystery with afternoon tea. We organise our own props and costumes so there is always a lot to do.

There is a wide range of experience in the group, some, like me, who have never done any theatricals since school, and others who have a life long experience in amateur dramatics - so we have many opportunities to learn from each other.

Our meetings, twice a month, are very enjoyable and a release from the everyday. So please get in touch with us. You might surprise yourself. Margaret Hardstone
