9 YEARS OF WALKING SINCE 2014

WE WE ARE NOW WALKING OUR 10TH YEAR - 2024

Thank you to all members who have renewed their membership for 2024-25. I hope you will continue to enjoy our walking but also find new things to explore in Gosport u3a. We have become a very settled group with many long standing members who readily welcome new faces and help them feel part of the group very quickly. We continue to explore a range of environments and terrains in an approximate 30 mile radius from Gosport. We are keen to welcome new members especially if they have experience of walk planning and leading. We are also keen to attract members with very little experience but who want to learn more and develop their skills.

We usually walk between 7 and 10 miles on country footpaths where we do meet uneven terrain with hills and stiles so a reasonable fitness, appropriate footwear and outdoor clothing is required. Because these walks are longer we aim to walk at a good pace while also stopping to enjoy the countryside and other landmarks we pass.

Members receive an email the weekend before a walk with an indication of how challenging the walk may be. Walkers must consider this information carefully and decide if it is appropriate for them to join the walk. We take a picnic and sometimes have a special outing eg to the Isle of Wight or for a pub lunch. We meet at Holbrook and organise car sharing so we do rely on a good number of willing drivers.

There are a growing number of Walk Leaders in the group. They always carry out a careful walk check and alert the group to any risks so that safety can be maintained. A key feature of the group is that many members have the opportunity to go out with experienced Leaders to help check walks and learn more about how the walks are planned.

If you are interested in joining our group please use the bluebird link on this page to send an email. I will get back to you and arrange a phone call to talk more about how the group operates. PLEASE NOTE To ensure walk leaders can lead groups safely we will set a limit to group membership at 30 walkers. If the list reaches this number new members will be added to a waiting list.

From this page you can access and download, past Walk Programmes and a comprehensive New Members Information Sheet.
