We are a lively group who very much enjoy our meetings, taking it in turns to lead on a chosen poet or theme. Everyone is encouraged to contribute.
Our schedule reflects the classics through to contemporary writers.
Welcome to our 2019 programme. We have had great sessions so far with "Christina Rossetti and her circle" with Julia Grant, "The Brownings" with Sheila Carr, and "Ogden Nash" with Sheila Goddard.
On 10th April with Angela Gray we explored the highly original work of Victorian poet Gerard Manley Hopkins, on the relationship between God and nature and man.
On 8th May we continued with the spiritual theme, when Joanne Reed looked at The Bible as Poetry with special reference to The Psalms.
On 12th June we had a "open" session, the theme The Seven Ages of Love when everyone brought in poems on different kinds of love at different ages, maybe not quite the same as Shakespeare's Seven Ages of Man, maybe better!
On 10th July Belinda brought the poems of Murray Lachlan Young, with his witty take on modern life.
After our August break, we are much looking forward to September when Angela Baker is telling us about the brilliant young poet Helen Mort.
