Science, Technology and Engineering

During the Summer we managed only one visit, to the Gatwick Avistion museum. This (largely) open air museum is located at Charlwood, just a stone's throw from the western end of the Gatwick runway. Run entirely by volunteers it showcases post war Cold War aircraft, and a magnificent display of jet engines

Our opening meeting for the season was held on the 20th September when John Wells spoke about The National Grid and electricity supply.

We followed just four days later with a joint Probus and EG U3A trip to the code breaking centre at Bletchley Park, coupled with a visit to The National Museum of Computing.

In OCTOBER Dr Peter Watson gave a talk on offshore oil and gas exploration entitled "Launching Pigs and Catching Slugs". The mind boggles!

Our NOVEMBER meeting will be on Flight Simulators. A talk by Stuart Hatch. Fasten your seat belts. And maybe ask either Stuart or Mike Vivian for an update on the Boeing 737 MAX disasters, and how they are linked to the Boeing 737 simulator.

Our DECEMBER meeting will be the usual festive arrangement. As in past years there will be a Quiz. Don't panic! It won't be a quiz on technology - well not much. Just general knowledge. And there will be mulled wine and mince pies as well!!
