Country Walking
Country Walking Group general information.
We meet on the 4th Wednesday of each month, except for December when it is often earlier to avoid Christmas. The details of the meeting place will be announced by email.
Each month two emails are sent to all CWG members. One is a straightforward invite which you can reply too stating if you will or will not be attending and if you will be staying for lunch. The second contains all the walk information and normally contains several attachments and is therefore not suitable for replies.
After the walk is completed, we hope that the walkers will gather in the Pub for refreshments or lunch, the cost of which will be for each individual to settle directly with the Pub.
The standard U3A Group attendance fee of 50p will be collected before the walk.
Each walk will normally be 'circular' in nature, starting at the selected venue hopefully no later than 10.15am. The venue is normally a Pub car park - within a 30 minutes’ drive from East Grinstead. Directions will be provided where necessary. Each walk will be led by someone who has previously volunteered and who will have recce'd the route beforehand. Walks are about 5 miles, mainly off-road and take 2 to 3 hours.
Walkers should be reasonably fit, have suitable 'walking' clothing, boots etc., and be capable of negotiating stiles and able to maintain a walking rate that will meet the distance and time scales mentioned above. Walkers are responsible for their own Health and/or Safety and for the safekeeping of their clothing, equipment and belongings. They will be required to sign a 'Disclaimer', absolving the Walk and Group Leaders and/or the U3A from liability should any loss or accident occur - thus being responsible for their own Personal Accident occurrences.
