We despaired once the second peak of COVID-19 infection struck. But things have continued to look up. 12 interest groups are meeting online using Zoom. And although local halls and community centres are still closed we are ready to hit the ground running once the lockdown is lifted. The committee has organised a sub-committee which is actively working out what is in effect an exciting relaunch of EG U3A, with a lot of emphasis on publicity

  • The annual fee for 2020/21 is still only £13. This is reduced to £9.50 on production of evidence of membership of another U3A.
  • If you were a member in 2019-20 and have supported us at this difficult time by renewing for 2020-21 we will be offering you a substantial discount for your renewal in 2021-22
  • As there are currently no physical meetings there are currently no ATTENDANCE FEE payments due (Normally 50p per hour with a minimum of £1 for most groups in hired premises or just 50p in private venues)
  • Your membership card should be carried at all attendances (Not currently needed)
  • There is no fee payable for online attendance at Zoom meetings.

East Grinstead is in the High Weald a few miles north of Ashdown Forest. It is in West Sussex, but right on the border of Surrey and very close to East Sussex and Kent. East Grinstead U3A (University of the Third Age) draws its membership from all four counties.

East Grinstead U3A began in 1995. It has a membership (2018/19) of almost 750 (as of 30th September 2018), with more applications in the pipeline, and has 55 groups of various sizes catering for a wide range of interests.(See Groups section).

U3As are open to all people no longer in full time employment. We give them opportunities to keep active, to meet like-minded people and to continue to use and develop their knowledge and skills. We pursue learning not for qualifications, but for enjoyment. Activities are organised by the members. Sources of information on which members may base their contributions might include the Internet, Public Libraries, East Grinstead Museum

As a U3A we are part of a national network of self-managed organisations.
