Local Heritage
The Local Heritage group meets on the 4th Friday of the month at 10.30am at the Branston Church Hall. Doors open from 10.00am
The aim of the group is to explore and extend our knowledge about our local heritage. In previous years we have followed a thematic approach, however this year is a mixture of different subjects suggested by members of the group.
During the summer months we are usually out and about exploring our diverse county and it's near neighbours. Activities include guided walks, visiting heritage sites, investigating buildings and finding out about the life of local people both past and present.
In the winter months activities move indoors. Meetings usually take place in the Branston Church Hall and consists of talks on a wide range of subjects.
Occasionally visits are made to Lincoln Archives to examine the wide range of documents they hold that relate to local matters. We also visit museums where exhibits provide an insight into Lincolnshire's past. Several of our winter meetings are "open" and we invite all members of Branston u3a to come along. These events are advertised in the newsletter and at the monthly general meeting.
At the request of members, we often extend the monthly event by staying on for lunch/refreshments. This gives members the opportunity to discuss the morning's activity as well as to socialise and relax together. Whilst everyone is welcome, there is no obligation to attend.
Anyone wishing to find out more about the group is welcome to come to one of our monthly meetings as a guest.
Please let us know before hand by contacting the convenor, John Tyerman via the Groups Coordinator.
