U3A Tynedale Art Appreciation Syllabus 2020/21
Land, Sea and Sky
The syllabus for next academic year 2020 -2021 will explore the different ways in which the natural world has been represented in art, from the cave paintings of prehistory up to contemporary photography of the intimate landscape.
We will be delighted and challenged by depictions of land, sea and sky, travelling in time from the very earliest images through to medieval times and the Renaissance to the present day. We will celebrate the work of painters from throughout Europe and Britain, looking at well-known painters such as Constable and Turner as well as lesser known artists such as Eric Ravilious.
We have built in the Desert Island sessions too, so that those who wish to showcase a favourite painting or photograph can do so.
‘ Landscape painting is the obvious resource of misanthropy.’ William Hazlitt
