Convenor: Michael Tel: 01434 694 472
We meet at the Torch Centre, Corbridge Road, Hexham, NE46 1QS on the 3rd Monday of the month at 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
The Science Group welcomes any member of Tynedale U3A, and any person who is thinking of becoming a member. You do not have to belong to the group; if there is a subject on our programme which you would find interesting, then please come along. I would only ask that you let me know that you intend to do so.
You do not need to be educated or trained as a scientist to belong, all you need is an interest in things scientific. Our topics are wide ranging, and while most are talks given by members of the group we may do other things such as visiting various local establishments which have a scientific connotation.
If you join, then we would like you to contribute talks or suggestions for other types of activities, or even arrange for a guest speaker. You do not need to have prior expertise in any subject you choose to talk about, some of the best talks have come from an interest sparked by reading a book or article, or seeing something on the internet completely “off piste”. By the time you have finished research, you will certainly know more on the subject than anyone else present! Talks and presentations (usually lasting about one hour) are followed by questions and discussion, usually very lively, and this is a key part of the meetings. In fact, talks are given very informally, and often discussion will occur as points come up. We have 19 members at present, all active. There are usually about 15 members present at most meetings.
Please come, we will be very pleased to see you.
