Welcome! If you love to read poetry aloud, and hear poetry read aloud by others, this is the place for you. Our monthly readings are usually "own choice" - we bring our own selections of poems.
We don't usually set a theme.
We sit around a table and each person reads a poem in turn. The number of 'rounds' depends of course on the number of people present and the lengths of the poems. We have 9 members including two associate members from Prudhoe and District U3A.
We tend not to analyse or critique the poems (or the readings!). We do sometimes ask for a poem or a verse or a line to be read a second time if it is particularly striking or hard to 'get'. Occasionally, a member will bring a poem they have written but mostly we rely on established and 'emerging' poets.
We meet on the second Thursday of each month (except August) from 2.00-3.30 pm. The venue is: The meeting room at Newcastle Building Society
