The Landscape group is for people interested in understanding the physical and human factors that have shaped the landscape around us. Influences on the landscape include
- geology and geomorphology
- ecology, environment and climate
- agriculture
- industry
- human habitation and transport links
See What makes a Landscape for more thoughts on this.
What we do
We meet on the 4th Monday of the month.
Our winter meetings (Sep-March) are a mixture of talks presented by group members on aspects of Landscape, or research themes. For the research themes one member prepares an introduction and then group members individually research an aspect of theme. This is followed by short presentations (5-10 minutes) and discussion.
Our research themes for the 23/24 winter season are:
- Drove Roads
- Chalk Stream Landscapes
- Lead mining in the North Pennines
- Field boundaries
In the summer months we explore Landscape through field visits, with a pub or cafe lunch included.
Interested in joining?
If you are interested in joining, or have any questions please contact Steve. You are welcome to come along to up to two sessions as a taster. There are no additional fees for this group.
