Computing
The Computer Group meets on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 10.00 and continues through the summer. Very occasionally we need to miss a session so check with the Group Leader if you would like to come along to this fun group. We meet in the Edgar Hall Conference Room, Somerton where we have the use of a wireless Broadband Internet connection.
Hardware problems, Software problems or even operator problems, bring them to the group - we like problem solving in the cheerful relaxed atmosphere of the group!
You can join the group on a regular basis (£12 per term) or just come along to solve your present computer problem/headache/irritation. (£2 per visit).
The aim of the group is to give confidence to users of PC's and develop skills of regular users by sharing problems and learning new skills.
It is a practical group and the format is to look at problems members have. We include camera/computer/phone/tablet problems. The group has no fixed agenda: although we tackle topics by request, most sessions are talking about computer experiences and the latest computer issues. Some recent topics are Skype, Video editing, Photo Editors, Choice of browser and emailing, Choice of Virus software, U3A Website management and Linux operating systems. In the past we have upgraded computer memory, added CD drives, looked at changing the CMOS battery which keeps the computer clock, etc. running, and all office applications.
Meet like minded people who just like playing with computers, and enjoy a cup of coffee at the same time!
HELP DESK
We now have a Help Desk, which is open in the Edgar Hall up to the start of the Monthly Meeting, offering technical advice on computers and similar devices. The Desk is usually manned by the Group Leader, David Slocombe, via the LINK.
