Art Group 3
This Group meets weekly, on Tuesday mornings from 10.00am until 12.30pm in the small room in Merton Hall, where we have the facilities to accommodate our painting & drawing. From time to time we also hope to utilise outdoor venues when the weather is appropriate. The intention is to hold our sessions as often as we can, although we do have short breaks over the Christmas and Easter periods, school half-terms, and the school summer holiday period.
Between us, we put together a programme for each term in which varied topics are suggested and sometimes specific media is suggested. We have found that this works well, enabling us to know in advance what is required every week. The programme is varied, ranging from landscape, still life, industrial scenes, portraits, and many other topics including abstract art. This programme is not hard and fast, however, and we have an “escape route” whereby anybody who is not enthused by a particular weeks’ suggestion can simply do their own thing.
We have also experimented with having sessions where we work on a "self-programming" basis, which allows us to take time over completing work and we are keen to share our expertise by having occasional “workshops” led one or other of our members.
We are a friendly and lively group; all levels of ability and all media, except oil painting, are catered for, and although we do not have the advice of a regular tutor we are open to inviting specialists from time to time to guide us in particular topics.
Covid-19 situation as at October 2020: Not Currently meeting. Merton Hall is unlikely to re-open before January 2021. We are looking forward to recommencing when it is safe to do so. Some members have worked enthusiastically at home. What we are truly missing is the chance to be together to chat , encourage each other in our art and to put the World to right.
