Northumberland Region

Forthcoming Regional events are displayed here. There are 4 regional meetings each year and are held at the Angel View Inn, Gateshead. These meetings are open to all Ponteland U3A members. Everybody is most welcome!

Please contact any member of our committee for further details if you are interested in attending any of the meetings.

Our Northumbria Region is a lively grouping of all the U3As in this large northern area stretching from the Scottish border down to north Yorkshire. There are many things going on from which individuals can benefit and have enjoyable days out.

As mentioned above the Northumbria Region organises special events from time to time. News and information about these will be shown in this section when they are available.

There are also various other opportunities in our region open to people in the Third Age. Newcastle University through its Initiative on Changing Age has a number of such that you might be interested in. The Voice North page shown in the sidebar at the right of this page will provide you with further information and a link to their website.

The Region is considering how MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses, offered free now by many universities and colleges worlwide) could better support group study and continued learning by older people. Recent courses on ‘Hadrian’s Wall’ and ‘Developing your research project’ have been discussed at regional U3A meetings, but we don’t know, for example, how many regional U3A members have ever registered for an online course. This will be an ongoing topic for discussion.
