A Half Good Read
This friendly group meets at 2pm on the 4th Tuesday in alternate months starting with January. Each member hosts the meeting to discuss the book nominated by them at the previous meeting. Chat, tea or coffee add to the pleasure the afternoon gives. If you are interested in joining do contact Alma the Convener.
Covid-19 situation as at October 2020: Although we have not been able to meet in person to discuss our book choices, we have had different titles every other month to read. At first, we shared our impressions by email then we tried another way to keep in touch when we shared favourite poems and this is a diversion that we may try again. In July we began using Zoom and September was our second time with this app, getting together to discuss the latest book selected. We enjoyed dissecting Graham Norton's novel “A Keeper”, concluding that it was an easy read but none of us expect to try his work again.
It looks like Zoom will be our best option for the foreseeable future because at least it allows us to see each other, share our thoughts and have some form of social contact. Yes, we rely on good reception and for our hardware to work without glitches but we can still feel part of a group of friends who enjoy reading but appreciate having our own views challenged and allows us to see things that we had missed in our own reading.
