Each member takes a turn in presenting a selection of wines on a particular theme, it could be grape varieties, where bought, particular vineyards or countries. There are nibbles of what goes best food wise to accompany each tasting.
After lockdown we split the group into two groups of six and met in my garden at a time and day when weather conditions were good. It is possible that this format will operate again this year.
We had one afternoon and one evening group until the end of October when the weather defeated us.
Most members present an evening during the year with wines of their choice, though this is not compulsory. I advise the person presenting the wines of the number attending one week before the date of the meeting to allow purchase of the wines and snacks so that they are aware of the total amount of cash they have to spend. Money is collected at the beginning of each session and any balance remaining will be kept in a kitty for use at a later date.
About seven wines are tasted at each session, though this can vary upon the number of members attending and the cost of the wines chosen. All members provide their own tasting glasses – most folk bring six.
There is a cost of £10 per session which covers the cost of wine and nibbles to complement each wine tasted.
There are twelve group members and no vacancies at the present time.
