We are a group of 10 max who meet to discuss the origins of words. Each time we have a theme and look at where the words have originated going on journeys through Ancient and Modern languages.
No language experience needed, although some of us have knowledge of other languages eg French Greek Latin Russian and Sanskrit.
A previous theme for example was HORSE :we looked at various derivations eg. hippopotamus Greek meaning river horse/ stallion- Anglo Norman French linked to stall/ Hengist -Middle German meaning horse from which we get the surname Henman
