PREVIOUS OPERA EVENTS:
In July Scottish Opera are putting on their community production of Pagliacci by Leoncavallo.
The production is being staged in "Paisley Opera House" a huge marquee on the sports ground in Seedhill Road.
Performances will take place on Thursday 26 of July, Saturday 28 July performances starts at 7 pm( doors open at 6 pm for food and entertainment )
Sunday performance on 29 July at 3 o'clock(doors open at 2 for food and entertainment )
This is a promenade style of Opera in that most of the audience is not seated and almost part of the action.
It is not a long Opera approximately one hour with a interval. Therefore a good introduction to Opera if you have not tried it before.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased from Renfrewshire box office https://boxoffice.renfrewshire.gov.uk/showasp.
Something different is taking place at Harbour Arts Centre Irvine in August. Ayrshire Opera is staging a production of Dido & Aeneas which will be sung in Scots and Gaelic.
The chorus is made up of thirty community singers who come together over the course of a week and are taught the Opera by professional opera singers and musicians.
This is a young, lively, talented company which is well worth consideration
The Harbour Arts Centre is a lovely intimate venue and they have a lovely little bistro attached.
There will be two performances on Saturday 11 August one in the afternoon and one in the evening.
Not sure if our planning group were sold on this one but thought I would alert the wider group just in case it appeals to anyone.
On September 13 we hope to attend The Paisley Showcase at Linwood for a live screening of La Boheme from Sidney Opera House.
Hopefully there is something here for everyone.
We will firm up on arrangements nearer the time.
Please contact me if you wish to join our Opera Appreciation Group !
Ps :Top tip from Trevor check out radio 3, week days at 12 oclock to listen to featured composer of the week.
