Groups

Interest Groups or Activity Groups are an integral part of the U3A concept. They comprise groups of members who meet together regularly, either fortnightly or once a month to pursue a subject of mutual interest.

Meeting venues differ according to the needs of the group - a small group may prefer to meet in someone's house, while a larger group or one that requires special equipment will need a larger venue, and a theatre, cinema or lunch group will meet at the theatre, cinema or restaurant.

All the groups will reflect the members' interests and aim to satisfy as wide a range as possible; educational, cultural, recreational, physical and social. The U3A Trust offers many supportive learning resources to which all groups have access. It is up to each group to decide how best meet the learning needs of it's members.

Have a look at the websites of some of the U3As that are now well established, e.g. East Renfrewshire. You'll probably be surprised and delighted at the possibilities. Remember that the U3A is self-help organisation that relies on the idea of everyone working together to learn from each other. Each group will be self managed, although support will be available through a group co-ordinator. Please let us know if you'd like to help lead a group.

If an activity in which you are particularly interested in is not available, why not suggest it? Also, if you would like to be more involved in developing a group and sharing your knowledge and skills, please let us know!

We'd be delighted to hear about your ideas for interest groups. More information about possible groups will be posted as soon as we identify more group leaders. We are always open to suggestions for new groups. Why not send us some feedback now or let us know by contacting us via our website or at one of our monthly meetings.

Please keep in touch.

We are still keen to hear from those who may be interested in joining, leading or co-ordinating the following groups.

Art- Painting and Drawing
Arts & Crafts
Scots Song
Traditional Step dancing
Nordic Walking
Scrabble
IT

We are keeping a record of those who may be keen to join any of the above groups. Remember, for a group to become viable, we need members to tell us what they would like, AND we need members who are willing to lead a group.

For now, the following groups, along with group leaders, have been identified. All of these groups are now up and running.

For further information about any of the small groups please use the contact page.
