Maritime Studies
Our meetings usually start with a brief maritime quiz followed up by a “One Fact Wonder”. The OFW involves a small amount of research by members on a topic agreed at the previous meeting. There follows the presentation of research topics chosen by ourselves, and discussed by the meeting, at some length at times. Research usually involves the internet or books.
Occasionally we visit historic ships and museums and other places of maritime interest. Past visits have included the Medway Queen, HMS Belfast and the Cutty Sark, Chatham Historic Dockyard and the Museum of London Docklands as well as London Gateway Port.
We meet in members’ houses, but have room for the occasional new recruit, if maritime subjects “are their thing.”
