Walking
The walking group meets once a month usually on the second Sunday. There is no set programme.
The location of the months walk is advised about a week in advance to those on the register. It will include detailed joining instructions. All walks are around 5 miles long and will be within 20 miles of Leigh. Walks normally start and finish at a pub where most eat lunch.
Members will need some experience and dress appropriately for the expected weather. In August the group walk was in Hockley Woods and the Roach Valley.
An unhurried pace contributed to this steady four mile walk under a truly summer canopy of blue sky enriched by cumulus white clouds, passing solitary sunflowers, dragon flies, and a field of ripened Rape seed en route.
Later with a higher vantage point we had good views of recently cut crops across the valley farmland. There were several squadrons of crows busily feasting on grain left by the harvester. We then ambled our way up through Hockley Woods concluding the day with lunch in the comfortable surroundings of the 'Bull' pub.
