Bamboo Pipes

The Bamboo Pipes group is a long established study group. Members have been, making, playing and studying Bamboo Pipes (in all shapes and sizes) for many years. In recent years the group have entertained Crawley U3A members at our Christmas social meetings and at Sussex U3A Network (SUN) area meetings.

Bamboo Piping Group: First & third Thursdays of the month, 2.00pm.

We have had a good year, sadly losing one member, but maintaining an eleven-strong group. We meet twice a month at Furnace Green Community Centre, and occasionally at my home for making new pipes or extra practice. Our playing as a group has improved, and we tackle a variety of chiefly classical music, including music by Mozart, Purcell and Handel, all specially arranged for pipes. We link up with the UK's 'Pipers Guild', who can supply music. The Guild also runs a Summer Course, which 6 of us attended. We ran a day's piping at the URC church in Pound Hill, and entertained Guild members. We also led carols at Crawley U3A's Christmas meeting. If you know a little music, and would like the challenge of making and playing your own instrument, do join us.
