Art Appreciation Groups
Art appreciation has always been a popular subject with Crawley U3A members from the earliest days, so much so that we now have three groups operating independently.
Each group decides its own programme of study and arrange occasional visits to exhibitions.
Art Appreciation 1: Meetings 1st & 3rd Thursdays, 10.00am.
I have been leading this Group for a while having taken over from Mary Russell after her long term of invaluable service to the Group and the U3A in general. We started to look at the beginning of the Renaissance and are continuing in that vein using DVD's which are available from the Resource Centre of the Third Age Trust.
We are a small, friendly group and would be happy for new members to join us.
Art Appreciation 2: Meetings 2nd & 4th Tuesdays, 10.30am. at St Pauls Church, Northgate.
Our group borrow DVDs from the U3A Resources Centre and report on visits to galleries and television programmes etc.
We have been watching a series on the History of British Art presented by Andrew Graham-Dixon and still have two more programmes to view, followed by some individual artists of the 20th century with Sussex connections. Details are:
25th September History of British Art part 5 - All change, the Victorian Era;
9th October History of British Art part 6 - Our House, the 20th century;
23rd October The Art of Eric Gill - Sculpture and Drawing;
13th November Frank Brangwyn - Art, it's just a job;
27th November Duncan Grant at Charlston;
11th December George Frederick Watts.
Art Appreciation 3: Meetings 1st & 3rd Wednesdays at 10.00am.
We are a small friendly group of art lovers who would like to see some more like minded people join us.
In the upcoming year we will be looking at the art of Japan, China and America with the aid of DVD's and books and if time permits we will also look at the art of Australia and Canada.
We look forward to meeting you.
