History of Technology

History of Technology is a well-established group of like-minded individuals that enjoy combining an interest in History with a desire to understand how things work, in essence we explore how and why everyday items came into existence.

Although led by a leader, who researches the subjects, this is more of an open discussion group, where members own experiences and knowledge help towards explaining some of life’s deeper mysteries.
Members require no special qualifications, just a lifetime of experience and an enquiring mind.

In the past we have tackled subjects as broad as Roman Sussex, Computers and Motorised Transport, becoming semi-proficient in adding up Binary Numbers and trying to work out how an Automatic Transmission works!

Our current challenge is the “Science of Weaponry” which explores not so much WHY we throw things at each other, but HOW the things are thrown.

In the process we have a lot of fun, most of which comes from diversions from the main theme and in the process learn a thing or two, but frequently have to admit that there are some things that still baffle us, like Automatic Transmissions.

We meet on the first Thursday in the Horsham Library meeting room. We charge a crippling £2.00 per session, but you do get a cup of coffee, and occasionally some biscuits. There is room around the table for a few more so contact the Group Leader.
