Family History

Our December 2018 meeting got us taxing our "little grey cells" unscrambling the names of sweets' and chocolates' names in our Christmas fun quiz. We then shared nibbles and a drink.

In November 2018 we were beginning to research our WWI ancestors, learning which Regiments they joined, which theatre of the war they were fighting in and if they were injured, died or survived. Also what roles women played, whether in the Armed Forces or in factories or at home. We intend to continue this theme into the New Year and include WWII.

Earlier in the year we were exploring Irish genealogy. Up to now this has been very difficult to research because of the lack of records to replace all those lost in The Four Courts fire in the 1920's. But more varieties of Records are coming on line to augment the loss of Censuses, Wills and other records.

January meeting saw us picking up the WWI and WWII theme again. There were some lovely photographs, personal items and documents with stories told of courage and heroism, which brought the individuals to life again.
We are very sorry to lose Sheila Welch from our Group. Her ill health prevents her from coming to our meetings. She will be greatly missed by us all. We thank her here for all her work on our behalf. We will keep her up to date with what goes on at our meetings.

If you are interested in exploring your family's roots or "skeletons in the cupboard" you are very welcome to come and join us.
