Walking - Sole Mates

Group Leader:Sue Parmley
Contact:Please use Members Portal on Beacon

What we do:

We are a friendly walking group, meeting on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month

Muster points

Often we meet prior to the walk to share transport:
1. Going east or north of Carlisle, road in front of Rosehill Home, just East of M6 Junction 43.
Turn left off A69, 100 yards past roundabout.
2. Going south, Premier Inn service road near M6 Junction 42. Take A6 towards Carlisle and
turn right off dual carriageway. Recently we have sometimes struggled to find parking
spaces, other times it has been okay. There is alternative parking just off the Dalston road.
3. Dalston car park, in front of Cumberland Building Society. Toilets available here.
We generally aim to be at the start of a walk at around 10.30, leaving the muster point at 10.00am. Some walks require an earlier meeting time, so always check the programme or look out for emails about this. Anyone going direct to the start of a walk should notify the walk leader.

Distances

In summer we aim to do some walks up to 8 miles, and travel times may be up to an hour. In winter we aim to keep journey times down to within 30 minutes, with walks no longer than 6 miles.
Walks are planned and led by group members. Details of each walk will be in the program sent out by email to each member, and are also published on the website. The programme may change according to factors such as the weather.

Cancellation of Walks

Bad weather may lead to cancellation of walks. This will be by email so please check before setting out, if the weather looks doubtful.

Disclaimer

Walks organised by U3A groups have public liability insurance cover, provided the walkers are U3A members. This is not personal accident insurance and participants are responsible for their own personal safety. We do not offer a “duty of care”, and group members walk at their own risk.
What to bring
Walkers should ensure that they have proper clothing and equipment, and that their level of fitness is adequate for the proposed walk. There will be a break for lunch, and other stops for drinks, points of interest, or simply to admire the view! There may also be a cafe option at the end of a walk.
