What we do:
We do a wide range of English Country dances from those first published by John Playford in the mid seventeenth century, and now referred to as Playford dances- though he didn't write any- through to those written in this century in a similar style.
Dances can be lively and elegant, sedate and flirtatious. Once you have learned the figures you can, in theory at any rate, dance anything out of the hundreds published. You never get bored, though we aren't always doing new dances. It just means you can go to another group and not have to sit out because you don't know the dance.
English Country dancing can be done by those who are not as fit as they used to be. Dances can be walked, and mostly are, there is no charging about as at a ceilidh. If you are unable to do turns or swings it doesn't matter as it doesn't interfere with the rest of the set. We aren't trying to win prizes.
There is no need to bring a partner because everyone dances with everyone else.
If you would like to come and just watch you will be very welcome
