HURST GREEN & RIVER RIBBLE. 10.30 am start. Packed lunch.
Meet: Hurst Green Memorial Hall C.P. GR 684382 Explorer 287. Approx. postcode BB7 9QB. C.P. fee (Honesty Box).
Walk: Moderate. Tracks, field paths with some road walking. Possibly muddy in places.
Length: 8 miles. Toilets near C.P.

Directions: Suggested route: M6 to J31. T.R. onto A59 towards Clitheroe. After about 7 miles T.L. at traffic lights towards Ribchester. Soon after crossing the River Ribble T.R. into Gallows Lane. After about 2 miles at T junction T.R. onto B6243 to Hurst Green. In Hurst Green T.L. opposite the Shireburn Arms Hotel. The Memorial Hall C.P. is near the top of the road on the right. Also, toilets near lunch stop.
Distance: It took just over 1 hour from M6 J22.

Walk: Walk is strenuous with steep hills. Will be muddy if wet.

Directions: Leave Macclesfield on A537 towards Buxton, at end of long straight, fork right on Buxton Old Road following sign to Teggs Nose Country Park. Toilets and cafe in car park.

Meet: Toby Waterside, East Lancashire Rd, St Helens, WA11 7LX.  Park in Pay and Display Car Park.  Free if eating or drinking in pub, otherwise £3 for up to 4 hours.
Walk: Easy Walk, mostly good paths, no stiles.  One or two muddy parts after rain.

Directions: Just off East Lancs Road North of St Helens.  Travelling towards Liverpool (West) Turn Right at traffic lights on A571 signpost Wigan, Billinge, then immediately right again by OYO hotel.

Walk: Moderate to Hard, mostly tracks, some field and road. Elevation approx 600 metres. Coffee after at the White horse pub 
Length: Distance 8 miles (or 5.5 if a shorter route is required)

Directions: Take the A541 NW from Mold, turn left at Hendy signed Cilcain, opp a white house.
After approx 1.5 miles, coming into Cilcain from the North, turn right at the staggered X roads.
Continue past the White horse Pub on right and the Church on left
Turn left after approx 0.25-mile, at the end of the speed restriction (opp a white house named 'Hafod Y Foel')
After approx 0.25-mile, Park at the first CP on the right. (leisure drive notice opp the CP )

Moel Gyw
Meet: Meet at Pistyll quarry carpark. Grid ref. 189 573. at 10:30
Walk: Moderate.
Length: 7.5 miles

Directions: M56. To north Wales, then A494 sp Mold. Then Follow signs for Ruthin. Through loggerheads and then look out for road on L towards Llanarmon-yn-lal. The CP is on the left after a mile or so.

Walk: Moderate. 1 steep incline. Several stiles. Mostly fields and gravel paths.
Length: 5 miles

Walk: Walk goes along side river through a field to Saltersford Locks where we have our packed lunch Then to Trent and Mersey Canal and on to Little Legh Village

Walk: Walking through part of Spud Wood, Outrington, Agden and back to the pub. The walk will be a mixture of roads and paths with some gentle inclines.

Walk: Easy. Fairly flat walk through the village and along the Mersey Way.

Meet: Asda Car Park at McDonalds entrance. No need to book eating place as there are plenty. There is The Peacock Pub, Costa Coffee, Good cafe in Centre, Roast to Perfection Take a way. McDonalds, etc.
Walk: Up to Risley Moss and back through Birchwood Park.
Length: 3.5 miles on paths, no stiles. All flat.

Billinge 'Lump'
Meet: Parking at Carr Mill Dam - WA11 7LX with a packed lunch. No toilets - until after the walk if having a drink in the pub.
Walk: Heading west along East Lancs Rd (A580) turn right at junction with A571 towards Billinge/Wigan. Immediately turn right into the shared entrance to OYO Lakeside Hotel and Toby Carvery (Waterside). Drive past the pub car park, over a short unmade (bumpy!) stretch, to park alongside Carr Mill Dam with railway viaduct bridge on right.

Walk: Starts at 10.30am. Fairly easy walk along river bank, good paths and country lanes. A few stiles along the way.
Length: 6 miles

Meet: 10:30 start from the National Trust car park Alderley Edge (free with membership card, otherwise £7 for the day)  Toilets at car park, great tearooms too. Location SJ 8598 7722, SK10 4UB. (dreams.less.bliss)
Walk: Moderate. Woodland , fields, some lanes. One gradual ascent and one more challenging ascent. About 10 stiles. There will be mud in a few places

Directions: Drive through Heswall on the A540 towards Hoylake, after the houses there is a long open stretch of road to reach a sloping roundabout, take the first exit to go downhill to a junction, turn right onto Station Road which soon bends left and along straight takes you to the Country Park. Immediately Before the FLISSY Coffee Shop turn Left and go down to the lower car park.

Walk A flat walk with no stiles beginning beside the canal into Lymm village then continuing up to the dam (steps). We will then walk round the dam and make our way back to the start passing Oughtrington Church and a small wood.

Walk: Undulating, 300M total ascent, length approx. 7.5 miles. Lots of Cheshire mud and some road walking. No stiles. Great views.

Walk: Easy,mainly footpaths, and some roads. Approx. 5 miles.
Directions: M62 towards Liverpool, exit Junction 6. Take 2nd lane Liverpool airport A5300. At roundabout take 3rd exit Liverpool airport A561. Continue on Speke Road, going past Speke, Garston and Aigburth. After Aigburth cricket club, look for 2nd set of major traffic lights take left turn (Jericho Lane). At the roundabout take first exit onto Otterspool Drive. After 200 yards Adventure café is on the left.

The 3 parks of Irlam
Meet: 10.30am Start from the Boathouse Inn, Ferry Road, Irlam, M44 6DN.
Walk: This is an interesting walk around Irlam with opportunities to see the Industrial Heritage rather than beautiful countryside, and will include an extended coffee break at the interesting Irlam Station with plenty of outside seating, toilets and drinks and snacks on sale.  The walk is on good paths, but some parts may be muddy.

Directions: Take Liverpool Road B5320 through Irlam and turn off on Ferryhill Road opposite Chapel Medical Centre (white building).  Follow this road all the way to the end where you will see the Boathouse Inn.

Walk: Whitegate Way, field paths, tracks and woodlands about 500ft of ascent.

Directions: from junction 10 on the M56 take the A49 towards Whitchurch.  Follow for about 8 miles crossing swing bridge turning right at roundabout and through Cuddington to traffic lights at the Shell garage. Turn left onto the A556 towards Northwich and then right at the next traffic lights into Dalesford Lane. After about 2 miles turn right at the crossroads into Clay Lane. Immediately after next traffic lights turn sharp left to Whitegate Station Free CP. toilets available, café only open until 3:00pm.

Meet: Outside St Peter’s Church, Aston Lane, WA7 3ED for a 10.30 start. ( Sat nav takes you just past the church).
Lunch: There are NO lunch or brick built toilet facilities here so we will be driving afterwards to the Bear’s Paw, Main st, Frodsham WA6 7AF.
Walk: This is a lovely walk of about 5.5 miles along the River Weaver on roads, paths and fields. There are 3 small stiles and 1 long hill otherwise flat. It shouldn’t be muddy.

Walk: Easy, flat  no stiles. Initially across fields then back along Liverpool Road to see urban art and information on the area's industrial and railway heritage.
Directions: Coming from Warrington go over the M6 at J21 down the A57 towards Manchester

Walk: Flat walk along some roads, field paths and tracks.

Directions: Either south on A49 to Cat & Lion at Stretton. Turn left at traffic lights on B5356 Stretton Road to Thorn Inn at Appleton Thorn where you turn right into Arley Road. After about 3 miles the car park is on the left just before the sign for Arley Hall. From M6 south to J20, right on A50 towards Warrington. Just after crossing the motorway and through traffic lights turn left at next roundabout on B5356 Grappenhall Road.  Follow road left at next roundabout and right at next junction to Thorn Inn where you turn left into Arley Road. After about 3 miles the car park is on the left just before the sign for Arley Hall.

Walk: Pleasant walk along the river to near Cilcain then skirt Ffrith Mtn, 350 mts ascent. Walk can be shortened or lengthened if needed.

Little Woolden Moss Walk
Meet: 10.30 am. The George & Dragon, 291 Warrington Road, Glazebury, WA3 5LF. Large car park which goes all round the pub.

Walk: 5.5 miles. 2 stiles, very flat and mostly on hard track. The walk goes round Little Woolden Moss which is a nature reserve run by Lancashire Wildlife Trust.
Directions: The George & Dragon is in Glazebury, the other side of Culcheth. From Warrington you can either take the M62 at the B&Q entrance & off at Jn11 then through Risley & Culcheth, or you can get on to the A580 East Lancs Road and turn right at the Greyhound roundabout.

Frodsham Sandstone Trail
Meet: At the Ring of Bells, 2 Bellemonte Rd, Frodsham WA6 6BS. Park at the pub and the toilets will be available before the walk. Food can be ordered on the day.
Start : 10.30 start
Walk : Walk approximately 6 miles in length. Decent paths with a few muddy sections. One tiny uphill section and a couple of steeper downhill paths. There are no stiles, but you need to negotiate 5 steps carved into a sandstone outcrop. There are outstanding views to be enjoyed over the estuary and Cheshire countryside.
Directions : From the A56 in Frodsham turn left at the lights opposite the Bears Paw onto the B5152 signposted Household Waste site and Parish Church. Just after the large junction on the left hand side and a school crossing sign look out for the right hand turn signposted Parish Church/Frodsham CofE Primary School. Turn into this road and you will see the pub a little further up on your left opposite the church. Park in the pub car park.

Hatton and Stockton Heath
Meet: New House Farm Cottage WA4 4BZ for 10:30 start
Leader: Ros Shaw
Walk: An easy pace. 7mls on tracks and paths. A different circular walk going south from Hatton.
Directions: Take A49 from Warrington towards M56.Turn right just before the Cat and Lion pub in Hatton Lane. House is 9/10ths of a mile on the left. Parking on drive for 15 or so. If you drive 100yds too far you will come to Rosewood Timber yard on the right. Mid morning break [toilets and cafe at Walton ] Lunch in Stockton Heath [ cafes available if wanted.]

Grappenhall

Meet: The Parr Arms, Grappenhall village.WA4 3EP. The pub car park is quite small but the church hall car park opposite should be available.
Start: Arrive to pre book food for a 10.30 start.
Walk: Quite an easy walk of 5.5 miles around Grappenhall with (hopefully) bluebells through Fords Rough and The Dingle.

The Dream
Meet: 10.30 am. The Griffin Inn, 184 Warrington Road, Bold Heath, WA8 3XT.  You can use toilets before the walk.
Walk: 5.5 miles easy with one uphill section to “the Dream” statue with good views, and steps up and over the motorway
Directions: Take Liverpool Road, A57 from Warrington about 4.5 miles to Bold Heath.  Griffin Inn is on the left, opposite the turning A569 to Clock Face.

Meet: Parking at Witton Country Park BB22TS ( approx ). Toilets and cafe.
Terrain: Climb at start, field paths, riverside and gorge, good views.
Distance: 7.5miles moderate.
Directions: Route M6 north to M65, go east on M65 to junction 3 (Blackburn West A674). Follow A674 towards Blackburn and brown signs to Witton Country Park. Turn left into main car park at traffic lights.

Stockton Heath and Walton
Meet: The London Bridge, London road. Stockton Heath. WA4 5BG for 10:30 start.
Park in the pub car park. 20 people only please. The toilets should be open as the cleaner will be there until 10.30. Order lunch from the online menu and please contact Stuart by text with your selection no later than Monday 16th please.
Walk: Taking to the canal towpath to the 2nd bridge. Then up the road to Walton reservoir. From there left along the path that leads to Stretton roundabout. Along another path that takes us to the Dingle, half way through the Dingle we turn left and pass St Monica's school and back to the pub for lunch.

Marple Ridge
Meet: Ridge Quarry Carpark, Marple Ridge, SK6 7ET
Walk:Terrain: mixture of canals, rivers and woods with good views. Mostly good paths, with a number of steep ascents/descents including steps. Total ascent approx 850 feet. 4 stiles.
Distance: 8.5 miles
Directions: Approx 40 mins from M6/M56 interchange at Lymm. Take A555 from the airport to its end at High Lane, turning right A6 towards Buxton. After 1.5 miles turn left into Carr Brow, at point where the main road bends to the right. There are chevrons at this junction and you turn into a 20 mph zone. (If you reach the entrance to Lyme Park you have gone too far). Carr Brow has a number of traffic calming chicanes. Near the top of the hill turn left into Wybersley Rd, follow this for approx 1 mile. Car park is on the right shortly after passing Kitling Ridge House (on the left) and a left hand bend. Carpark is free. No facilities.

Moel Arthur and Penycloddiau.
Walk: 8 miles with two good “ups” mostly on tracks with a couple of stiles. Two Iron Age hill forts with stunning views over North Wales right to the Great Orme.
Meet: in Moel Arthur CP at 10.30. Grid ref SJ146658 Post code LL164LP.
Directions: Take the A541 out of Mold direction Denbigh. After about 5 miles pass the sign post to Cilcain and take the next left at a house with blue barge boards. This is a single track B5429 leading to  Moel Arthur CP after 2 miles.

Whitegate Magical Mystery Trail
Meet: Plough Inn, Beauty Bank, Whitegate, Northwich, CW8 2BP
Start: 10.30. Pub car park / toilets available before walk.
Walk: Walk is a mix of countryside and woodland, and along the river Weaver, some stiles and slight gradients. We walk through the grounds of the Delamere estate, with some impressive giant Redwood and ancient Oak in the former Italian gardens.
Note: Shorts NOT advised.
Directions: Take care approaching Beauty Bank, which is a sharp left turn into a narrow lane, turn just just after a recent slatted wooden fence on your left.

Moses Gate Country Park and the Meccano Bridge
Walk: 5.5 miles moderate and interesting walk in the Croal and Irwell valley.  Toilets available halfway, 3 stiles, some mud, and 80 steps up with a rest afterwards!
Start: The Horseshoe at Ringley, 395 Fold Rd, Radcliffe, M26 1FT
Directions: Take M62 towards Manchester then go north on M60, M61 and A666 towards Bolton.  Take the exit signed A6053 F’worth/A666 Kearsley and at roundabout turn right  A666 towards Kearsley.  At the traffic lights turn left A667 towards Whitefield and follow the road just over a mile.  Turn right into Fold Rd at the sign for Giants Seat Garden Centre.  The pub is on the left just before the church. Pub has a small car park, or park on the road.

Directions:Macclesfield take A537 and then follow signs towards Teggs Nose Country Park. Then take Buxton old road for about 0.5m then turn right into Broadcar Road which becomes Coal Pit Lane into Langley. Turn left at T junction onto Langley road which becomes Main rd then Clarke lane to Leathers Smithy Pub where you stay on the main road and park on the left with Rigdegate Reservoir on your right. Toilets after 5 mins walk.

Meet: Peckforton and Beeston Car Park (free) for 10:30 start.
Directions: Turn right off the A49 at a brown sign for Peckforton castle 2 miles amongst other venues. Proceed along Dean Bank through Beeston village onto Stoney House Lane. Past Peckforton Castle and at a signpost for Peckforton and Beeston village hall, turn right into Quarrybank, and then right into car park. NB the A49 turns right at 4 Lane Ends just south of Tarporley. Grid ref SJ538566 Post Code CW69TN what three words - procures. uplifting. untrained.
Walk: Just under 7 miles, moderate mostly tracks. Good views over rural Cheshire. Afternoon coffee in Bunbury.

Walk: is relatively flat & dry, one squelchy bit, wear boots!!, shorts NOT advised, some stiles, one slight uphill at end of walk. 4.5 miles

Walk: 5.3 miles through Styal village along paved roads and paths to Black lake where we will stop for a short break. On thru Wilmslow to the park, with another short break and the last part of the walk to the pub for lunch.

Walk: Anglezarke, White Coppice to Great Hill.
Meet: Anglezarke  Reservoir parking PR6 9DQ off Moor Road.  No toilets
Length: 8 miles Moderate. Ascent 340 m. Mostly flat with a climb in the middle.

Directions: M61 to Junction 6 Take De Haviland Way /A6027 to roundabout. 
Take 2nd Exit A6/ Chorley Road 
A6 to Adlington. At roundabout take 2nd exit onto Railway Road to Anderton.  
Straight across at junction with Bolton Road onto Babylon Lane. 
Follow Babylon Lane, pass Bay Horse on left at a T Junction. Straight on to cross over M61 and take first left onto Nickleton Brow signed Anglezarke. 
Continue onto Nick Hilton’s Lane, pass Yew Tree on right, cross the reservoir on Knowlsey Lane. Road swings left to follow reservoir and at junction with Moor Road from Rivington keep left on Moor Road, next to reservoir. As road bends sharp right to go uphill, slow down to continue straight on into an entrance where you will see the access road to the car park on your right. No signage.  The road climbs up to the car park hidden in the trees. The slip road to car park is easily missed.
Distance: About 1 hour but allow for traffic.

Walk: 4 miles, relatively flat and dry with some easy stiles and some super views to the pennines.
Directions: Driving down New Road, pass the  pub on left hand side, 50 metres, turn left into sign posted municipal (free) car park

Alderley Edge
Meet: Drum & Monkey, Moss Rose, Alderley Edge SK9 7LD. Be careful when trying to find it, try not to drive past the opening for Moss Rose.
Note: Due to the walks duration and difficulty we would like to start the walk at 10 am. There are lots of parking spaces.
Walk: Can l first of all say that this is a beautiful but difficult walk of nearly 6 miles with 100 steps at the start. So it’s definitely not for the faint hearted. However it is a lovely walk thru woodland with magnificent views of Manchester and Derbyshire with several points of interest one being the Magicians well, another is a derelict mine shaft with small gauge railway line leading to it. It was a difficult route to negotiate and took us 3 attempts to crack it. But perseverance paid off and our reward will be if you join us.
Food: The Drum and Monkey is a nice pub with a good menu. So if you would like to eat please refer to the online menu and let me have your selection before the 26th.

Directions: Take A555 from Manchester Airport and turn off following the signs for Poynton. In the centre of Poynton, with church on your right, take the 2nd turn off at the double roundabout into Park Lane. Pass the shops and after 0.7 miles take the left fork into Middlewood Rd, signposted Anson Engine Museum. After 0.3 miles turn right into Anson Rd. At cross road go straight ahead and the carpark is immediately on your left hand side. There is some on road (free) parking nearby.

There is an opportunity to buy fresh raw milk and milkshakes from a farm en route in both directions, ie to and from the pub, so you don't have to carry it around the route with you. The milk is delicious, but one of their card readers isn't working presently, so you might need a combination of pound, 50p and 20p coins as well as a card! It looks like you can use your own containers. The milk shakes come in plastic bottles, we weren't sure how you bought their empty bottles from the machine.

Walk: 5 miles. This is a beautiful, scenic walk with views of two castles- Beeston and Peckforton. The walk is mainly flat with a few steeper inclines. There are two stiles and there may be some muddy patches.
Lunch: The food is good quality, but slightly more expensive than some pubs. There are sandwich options for £8. When booking on the walk, please could you state whether you will be staying for lunch. There is no need to pre order food.

2. For those who wish to walk further and see more of the Park - join me. I'll be talking about some of the history of the park, the deer, and the Egerton family who created the estate. Walking through Knutsford, past the Moor and entering Tatton via Dog Lodge. Walking through Tatton Covert up to the Old Hall car park and then walking towards the old Mill pond and the Deer sanctuary before crossing to the Pegasus Monument before walking to the Mansion. Returning back via the old Turn Mere area of the park, down Beech Avenue to Knutsford Lodge.
Mileage: Approx 6.06 miles.

3. As above, but for those not wanting to walk as far - leaving the guided walk at the Old Hall car park and either going to the Mansion, or walking back to Knutsford Lodge. Mileage: Approx 4.3 miles (Dog Lodge, Old Hall car park, Knutsford Lodge).

Directions: We did not follow our sat nav as we found the route below better. Our route - M6 north to Junction 27 (Standish) - follow A5209 to Standish. In Standish, straight at the traffic lights (ignore the brown sign to Haigh hall). Straight at roundabout - under railway bridge - 3rd exit at next roundabout - 1st exit at next roundabout (this time follow brown sign to Haigh hall) for about 1 mile. Where the road turns sharp left, go right to Haigh Hall following sign to Haigh Woodland Park - car park is on the right - pay on exit - toilets and cafes.

Walk: Moderate, 965 feet of ascent. Footpaths, wooded hills, fields, quiet lanes. 2 or 3 stiles towards the end.

Directions: There are different options M56 or A50 or A49. Quickest is M56, M53, A51 onto A41 towards Whitchurch. After 4.7 miles turn left onto Chester Road. After 2.4 miles turn left onto Burwardsley Road. After 2.1 miles slight left at Harthill Road. After 0.6 miles turn right onto Barracks Road, then Sarra Lane for car park. (Follow signs for Cheshire Workshops/Pheasant Inn when you see them). I prefer A49 past Tarporley and turn right at Dean Bank, signed for Beeston Castle. However, directions get murky at this point! Please check your map. I will do my best. Turn right at T junction with Chapel Lane (Beeston Castle Car Park might be signed to left) and keep the castle on your left as you pass around the hill. Keep right onto Crimes Lane, left at Wickson Lane, onto Tattenhall Lane and eventually left onto Burwardsley Road and continue as above.

Reminder: Beauty Bank is a sharp left hand turn off the main road into a narrow lane, just after a recent slatted wooden fence.

Walk: Challenging but with very rewarding views. Choice of skirting or climbing to the summit of Moel Famau. About 8 stiles.
Directions: Take the A541 NW from Mold, turn left after Hendre sign posted Cilcain 1and a half miles. Turn right in Cilcain, pass the church and bear right up the hill. Take the next left with a blue car park pointer and follow the road about a half a mile to the car park at side of the road

Rivington Terraced Gardens and Pike
Meet: 10.30 at Great House Barn car park, Bolton BL6 7SB (What3Words ///challenge.arrives.succumbs ). Toilets available. There is plenty of free parking along the road if the car park itself is full.
Walk: 5 miles if you go up to the Pike itself and 4½ if you miss this bit off. This is a fairly strenuous walk with quite a few steps to climb. There is an option to take a level walk from the top of the gardens to a nice little café, Fika, if you don't feel like climbing up to the Pike itself. There are no stiles and the paths are all very well surfaced with only one small section which could be muddy. Fantastic views from various points in good weather.

Walk: An interesting walk with many features, including an aquaduct, a medieval castle, parkland, woodland and two canal tunnels. We walk on good paths, across grassy fields and quiet lanes, with a short section along Offa’s Dyke. Possible mud in a few places. There are 4 or 5 stiles. Please bring a packed lunch as usual, and a torch to help see where you are going through the tunnels. We will stop at a lovely cafe a short distance before the end of the walk. Toilets at the start of the walk and at Chirk castle.
Distance: 8.5 miles, with 1,100 ft ascent/descent.

Walk: This walk goes almost to the top of Moel Famau and then goes south on Offas Dyke path, until we reach the top carpark. Then we will skirt around Foel Fenlii, and above Llanferras, eventually arriving back at the carpark. There are few stiles.

Take 2nd Exit A6/ Chorley Road
A6 to Adlington. At roundabout take 2nd exit onto Railway Road to Anderton.
Straight across at junction with Bolton Road onto Babylon Lane.
Follow Babylon Lane, pass Bay Horse on left at a T Junction. Straight on to cross over M61 and take first left onto Nickleton Brow signed Anglezarke.
Continue onto Nick Hilton’s Lane, pass Yew Tree on right, cross the reservoir on Knowlsey Lane
Road swings left to follow reservoir and at junction with Moor Road from Rivington keep left on Moor Road, next to reservoir. As road bends sharp right to go uphill, slow down to continue straight on into an entrance where you will see the access road to the car park on your right. No signage. Walk: Moderate, 8.2 miles, 1000ft height gain. Largely splendid woodland paths and tracks, no stiles, lots of steps.

Directions: From M62 eastbound at Jn 12 take the M60 (Leeds & Bolton) to Jn 15 and there take the M61 (Preston}. Soon filter right onto the A666(M) which becomes the A666. On reaching a big junction with Skoda motors on the left and Ford Motors ahead turn sharp right onto Turton St (A673), continue to the T junction and turn left onto the A676. Keep on the A676 ( there is a sharp left turn at The Crofters) until you turn left at a Brown Sign for “Jumbles Country Park. Car Park is at the end of this lane on the left.

Length: 8 miles 700ft climb. About 10 stiles all solid

Other information: Please let us know if you are coming. South via Sandstone trail to Manley, return via Alvaney and Helsby Hill. Some paths are a bit overgrown so long trousers are recommended unless you are into stings and bramble scratches!
Directions: M56/A56 to Frodsham. Through town on Main Street, bear left on B5393 Tarvin Road take 2nd left, (sharp!) into carpark for Foxhill House and Woodlands. Note: NOT main drive by lodge but about 250m further on. Through gate and follow track round 100m to carpark.
Don’t worry about the “private” signs, we have sorted it with Foxhill, but would suggest we make a donation of around £2 for each car.

Directions: Take the A56 to Frodsham and follow the B5152 towards Delamere (there’s a right turn after the dip in the road near Kingsley). In just over a mile, turn right again at Hatchmere onto Ashton Road. Drive through the forest for another mile, and the car park is on your left.

North Lyme Park & The Cage

Directions: From M56 take Airport turnoff and follow the A555. After a few miles you turn off to the right, and then left following the signs for Poynton. At the double roundabout in the centre of Poynton take the 2nd turning into Park Lane. Where the road bears to the right, take a left turn into Middlewood Road, following the brown signs for the Anson Engine museum. Take a right turn into Anson Road, still following the brown sights. At a cross roads, go straight ahead and the carpark is immediately on your left.
Walk: Moderate, some hills, approx 1000 feet of ascent/descent, generally good paths, through woods and open parkland. 5 stiles, one is difficult as it has lost its horizontal strut and is therefore more like climbing over a fence.

Jumbles, Turton & Entwistle

Meet:10:30 Waterfold Car Park, Jumbles Country Park. Grid Ref SD736139. If necessary, use postcode BL2 4JP (and drive a bit further, turning left when you see the brown sign on your right). Do not use BL7 9AX. What3words ///shower.tamed.spell. Open Loc/Plus code: 9C5VJHCX+MQ5.
Walk:7¾ miles, moderate. Largely alongside two reservoirs, with a gentle ascent over moorland along part of the Witton Weavers Way. Good tracks and paths, but parts will be wet and/or muddy. No stiles, but two rather awkward short sets of steps, one uphill and one downhill. The other steps are mainly downhill and straightforward.
Directions:Take the M62 westbound then M60(N) and M61 for Bolton. Follow A666 Bolton and continue towards the town centre. Pass under the ornate iron bridge and get in the right-hand lane. Turn right at the lights opposite the Ford garage into Turton Street, signed Ramsbottom A673 (A56). Turn left at next lights for Ramsbottom A676 into Folds Road, which becomes Tonge Moor Road. In 1½ miles, go straight on at the lights in Bradshaw Brow. In a further ½ mile at the next lights turn left signed Ramsbottom (A56) into Bradshaw Road. In just over a mile turn left, signed Jumbles Country Park. Follow the lane downhill and park at the very end in the main car park on the left. Allow 40-60 minutes.

Marple Ridge, Disley and Roman Lakes

Walk:8.5 miles. A pleasant walk along canals, through woods and along the river Goyt, mostly on good footpaths. May be muddy in places. Easy to moderate, with some steep climbs and steps in 2 sections. 3-4 stiles, one with a big step up. Approx 850 ft of ascent/descent.
Directions: Approx 40 mins from Lymm junction of M6/M56. From M56 take the turnoff for Manchester airport and follow the A555 to its end. Turn right onto A6 signposted Buxton. After 1.5 miles turn left at chevrons into a 20 mph zone through chicanes onto Carr Brow. (This is before Lyme Park). Near the top of the hill turn left into Wybersley Rd. The Ridge Quarry Car Park is on the right hand side after approx 1 mile. This is shortly after a left bend in the road after passing Kitling Ridge House (on the left). Car park free, no facilities. Walk: 5.5 miles, walk is a mix of countryside and woodland, some gradients and along the original route of the river Weaver. The walk takes us through the grounds of the Delamere estate and the former Italian gardens. Note: shorts not advised.
Directions: Take care approaching Beauty Bank, a very sharp left turn into a narrow lane, just after a recent slatted wooden fence on your left.

Walk:7.5 miles, starting from Orrell Water Park, following lower slopes of Billinge Hill before ascending to Winstanley College and back to the Water Park. Moderate, with one (short) steep climb. Three stiles (one slightly tricky). Views over the Mersey, Winter Hill and the Cheshire hills.

Directions:Take M6 north, leave at J26. Follow signs to Orrell or Wigan, A577 (briefly along M58 spur). At end of motorway spur, turn left onto A577 signed Wigan. Turn left into Moor Road, opposite Hill’s Florist and Stag Inn. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and stay on Moor Road. Turn left onto Church Street opposite ABODEE. Immediately after crossing railway, fork right onto Lodge Road – the entrance tothe Water Park is on the left through large yellow gates, opposite number 38.

Walk:Just under 5 miles taking us along good wide tracks into Lyme Park, passing the Cage and back along field paths and woodland to join the Macclesfield Canal for a short distance to Nelson Pit Visitor Centre. There are two fairly gentle climbs and hopefully good views from the Cage.
Directions:From the roundabout in the centre of Poynton take the road that goes past Mates DIY stores. Continue up the road past Waitrose supermarket and through a pedestrian crossing. Just beyond the pedestrian crossing the road forks, take the Left-hand fork sign-posted “Anson Engine Museum”. Follow the road and take the first right turn, sign-posted “Nelson Pit” and “Anson Engine Museum”. Follow the road until you reach a crossroad. The Boar’s Head is on the right at the crossroads. Turn right, the pub car park is just past the pub on the right.

Bold Forest Park and the Dream

Walk:A walk of about 7.5 miles mostly on well surfaced paths, one field path and a few muddy patches, no stiles. Mostly flat with 3 small climbs with viewpoints towards Liverpool, Winter Hill, Peak District and the Frodsham and Helsby hills.

Directions:Leave Warrington travelling west on the A57 Sankey Way dual carriageway sp Liverpool. Continue on the A57 (do not follow the Liverpool airport sign) past the Butchers Arms and the Trigger Pond pubs and the built-up area. At the traffic lights at the Griffin pub turn right into Clock Face road sp A569 Clock Face. Follow this road which takes you under the M62, then take the second turning on the right, Gorsey Lane, and drive the short distance to the Clock Face Colliery Country Park on your right.
Other info:Packed lunch advised. Bold Forest Park was created after a number of collieries were closed in the 1990s. It is all landscaped with good paths and a variety of trees and wildlife. From the car park we will go west to the Dream statue, then retrace our steps to the cars, and from there on to other parts of the country park. Hopefully we can have a coffee after the walk at The Hayloft, Sandy Lane WA8 3XP (you will pass Sandy Lane on your way on your left before you reach the Clock Face turnoff). Acton Bridge

Walk:Walk approximately 6 miles along Trent and Mersey canal along the Aston Grange loop along the River Weaver to Dutton Locks. Option Acton Bridge walk 2 miles. Some muddy parts, a couple of slopes, two stiles with gates at side that were unlocked when we went through. A few kissing gates, generally easy with some good views across the Weaver valley.

Meet:Starting at 10:30 from the Axe and Cleaver, School Lane, Dunham. WA14 4SE. There is ample parking behind the pub. Please share cars where possible.
Walk:The walk which is 5.7 miles takes us along the nearby canal south to Agden Bridge, where we leave it and walk 200 yds to the A56. That takes us past the Old Number 3 and on to the Swan with Two Nicks. From there across a bridge over a river and on into Dunham park. A right fork thru the park, around the perimeter over the steps thru the village and back to the pub for lunch.

Other info:No toilets on walk. Harrington Arms pub is open from 12 until 3pm and we should have finished the walk by 3pm. They serve coffee. On the way to the start of the walk, just after entering Church Lane , there is a sign to Gawsworth village shop and Gawsworth Hub. There is a coffee shop with toilets there. It is clearly signed from Church Lane, taking you left along Woodhouse Lane. It will be open in the morning.
Directions:From Warrington take the A50 to Knutsford. Then the A537 towards Macclesfield. Go through Chelford, then another 5.3 miles to Broken Cross. Just after the Pack Horse Inn on the RHS, there is a junction with traffic lights and Tesco on the corner. Turn right here, signposted B5392. Follow the B5392 for 0.1 miles, then continue onto Gawsworth Road. Stay on Gawsworth Road for 1.9 miles, then turn left into Dark Lane. Travel for 0.2 miles. Continue onto Church Lane and the church is on your left after 0.6 miles.

Walk:5.5 miles, mainly dry, quiet lanes, Kissing gates, 15 stiles less than my last walk. A pleasant ramble from the Plough, via Nova Scotia, Nunsmere, Newchurch common returning via Whitegate Way.
Reminder:Beauty Bank is a sharp left off the main road into a narrow lane, immediately after a long slatted wooden fence.

Walk:5 miles and a bit up and down and some steps, it takes in the Bridgewater Canal, Phoenix Park, Windmill Hill Wood and Halton Castle, where if we are lucky with the weather there should be great views of all the bridges and the remaining 4 towers at Fiddlers Ferry Power Station.

WALK: About 5.5 miles, moderate with some gentle inclines. Roads and paths through parks. Muddy in places, need boots. Toilets and cafe half way in Calderstones park.

Nelson’s Pit, Poynton

Walk:Ladybrook & Lyme, about 800 feet ascent. See Ramblers routes. 9 stiles – some very high, some wobbly. Canals, woodland, moorland and parkland. Some muddy patches – poles and gaiters?

Directions:From A555 take exit to Poynton A5149 (Chester Road) Cross the roundabout – slight chicane- onto Park Lane, then Middlewood Road, then turn right onto Anson Road which becomes Lyme Road. Near to Canal. Toilets. Pay and Display – takes card and cash £3.60. Toilets en route too!

White Nancy and Kerridge Hill

Directions:From M56 take Manchester Airport exit and follow the A555 for approx 5 miles. Get in the right hand lane to turn towards Poynton/Macclesfield at traffic lights. Take 2nd exit on the left Roy Chadwick Way/A523 towards Macclesfield. At Adlington turn left at the Legh Arms. 1.2 miles up this road, turn right into Sugar Lane. Go down this road for 1.3 miles, car park on the right before "closed road" sign at bridge. IMPORTANT - ONLY ACCESS TO CAR PARK IS DOWN SUGAR LANE. IGNORE NO ACCESS AND ROAD CLOSED AHEAD SIGNS.
Meet:10:30 at free carpark opposite Bollington Recreation Ground, SK10 5JT. What3words ///unable.portfolio.gentle. Toilets at car park.
Walk:7.7 miles, 1250 foot of ascent/descent. Moderate. Some short steep climbs. One long section of steps down hill. Some uneven, rocky ground, but mainly good paths and grassy paths. Some stiles, one difficult to climb down from due to short narrow steps immediately behind the stile. Walking Poles and gaiters recommended. Muddy in places. Fantastic views from Kerridge Ridge and White Nancy. Cafe 5 minutes before the end of the walk.
