Book of the Month I
The Olive Gold Reading Group
We meet in the afternoon on the second Wednesday of each month at Gaywood, where we are thoroughly spoilt by Dorothy our host.
We are a group of 10 members who share a love of literature. Our texts are chosen by group members three months prior to our meeting; members obtain their own books either directly from bookshops or increasingly as e-books: they can also be reserved from the local library. Both classic and contemporary novels are approached with enthusiasm; exploring plot, setting, character and structure of the novel for example. Sometimes someone can be persuaded to read an extract!
Following the tea break, we widen our discussion to explore ideas and issues raised from within the text. We also recommend books which we have personally enjoyed over the previous month.
Novels enjoyed in 2016 included:
How to be Both: Ali Smith
The Diary of an Ordinary Woman: Margaret Forster
Dominion - CJ Sansom
Evelina: Fanny Burney
A Friend from England: Anita Brookner
Contact: Maryanna Hailey
