Petanque
Petanque is a friendly but competitive sport played by a great variety of people.
In KL U3A we now have five groups all meeting and playing weekly on the terrain at the Farmers Arms, Knights Hill PE30 3HQ, for which there is no charge. All three groups share a system of playing pairs or triples in which partners are picked randomly each week. For tea or coffee breaks, the Farmers Arms provides an ideal venue.
Petanque 1 started in Autumn 2000, and has regularly played on Fridays 10.00 to 12.00. Our season begins on the first Friday in March and continues until the end of November when we have our Members’ lunch.
Petanque 2 play on Thursday afternoons, 14.00 to 16.00, with a periodic training session starting at 13.00. The season is 12 months!
Petanque 3 meet on Wednesdays 14.00 to 16.00. They also now play through the winter, starting at an earlier time.
Petanque 4 play on Monday mornings between 11.00 and 13.00. They also play throughout the year.
Petanque 5 are our newest addition and play on Tuesday afternoons.
This is the group with capacity for new members or those wishing to try the game; spare boules are available to loan.
North West Norfolk Petanque League, NWNPL, organise summer and winter league competitions and occasional open events. Some of our members do take part and are providing valuable support for the League.
For information about any groups initially contact the Group Coordinator, Dana Gower using the ‘Contact’ button on the Home Page of this web site.
Group Leaders for pétanque are Bob Hindry (Group 2), Tony Bellars (Group 3), Dawn Leigh (Group 4), Sue Burman and Mel Clarke (Group 5) and myself (Group 1) and you may contact us at the monthly meetings; you may also find us in action at Knights Hill.
