Shap Pink quarry Newland Valley quartz veins St Bees a beach at top of cliff

Photos: A visit to Shap Pink Quarry on a very cold day, in the Newlands Valley looking at quartz veins and St Bee's Head - there is evidence of a beach near the top of the cliff.

Unfortunately the geology group will no longer continue unless someone wishes to take over leading the group.

The group began in 2015 and was stimulated by a very expert and knowledgable Clive Boulter who gave talks and led field trips.
Clive moved away after a few years but we decided to continue the group with Penny Henderson and Hanna Burke agreeing to be coordinators.
Members of the group took turns to lead trips and give talks and were well supported. We explored Cumbria and its varied and interesting geological history. We are lucky to have such geology on our doorstep.
We have learnt a lot, seen a lot and enjoyed each other's company.

Click on Geology Field Trips for descriptions of and photos from these.
