Zoom Reading Group
Coordinator: Barbara Crompton
Third Wednesday of the month at 19:30
The Group was introduced when face to face discussions were not possible during the pandemic. But members are enjoying our books and our light hearted dis-cussions so we plan to continue. The group meets via Zoom. Titles are suggested by members and to date we have enjoyed a wide range of authors and genres.

---|---|
Fri Apr 19th | Discussion on The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell. We all enjoyed Maggie O’Farrell’s runaway bestseller, Hamnet, so we have decided to read another by the same author. The Marriage Portrait was published in 2022 and is also a historical novel but this time is set in Florence in the sixteenth century. It describes how Lucrezia, the third daughter of Cosimo I de’ Medici, the ruler of Florence was married off at the age of 13 to Alfonso, Duke of Ferrara, as a last-minute substitute for her older sister. We shall learn how their marriage develops. |
Wed May 15th | Discussion on Arrested Song by Irena Karafilly. Spanning three decades, Arrested Song chronicles the story of an extraordinary woman and her lifelong struggle against social and political tyranny in the aftermath of World War II. |
Wed Jun 19th | Discussion on The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri. Although this highly acclaimed novel was published five years ago, the book describes issues that are still in the news. This is a moving love story of a mother blinded by loss and her husband who insists on their survival as they undertake the Syrian refugee trail to Europe |
