Cheddar Valley

Miscellaneous

Within Cheddar Valley U3A there are approximately 50 special-interest groups. Many of these groups fall into natural categories, such as history groups and language groups. This website page gives information on those groups which do not naturally fall into the same categories as other groups. Please see the main "GROUPS" page of this website to find the days that Groups meet.

DAY TRIPPERS
We have a small committee of 6 members who research a number of day trips by coach throughout the year.

Our planned Day Trips for 2024 are as follows:
Wednesday 12th June Stow-on-the-Wold and Morton-in-Marsh. This is now completely full, but names are being taken for a waiting list in case of last minute cancellations.
Wednesday 18th September Oxford
Wednesday 27th November Bath (Christmas Market)

HOLIDAY 2024
The 2024 annual holiday by coach will be to Chester in May. This is now fully booked. The itinerary is now confirmed and there will be a trip to Liverpool, Port Sunlight, a steam train trip and time in Chester.

Booking forms for these trips will be available at Coffee Mornings and Speaker Meetings, or on request from Mary and Margaret whose phone numbers and email addresses are in the news bulletin.

MODEL RAILWAYS

was formed to cater for anyone interested in building or operating a Model Railway. We have the use of my (emptied) garage.
We have now:

• Constructed a base board on a permanent framework
• Laid a twin track layout, approx. 18 feet by 8 feet
• Found some skilled members who have provided buildings, trees and mountains!

COME AND JOIN US
VACANCIES IN ALL DEPARTMENTS
OUR RAILWAY NEEDS YOU!

If you have always wanted to PLAY TRAINS, but somehow never quite managed it, now is your chance. Do not miss it!

PHILOSOPHY

The group discusses various philosophical topics as chosen by members, occasionally focussing on a particular school or individual philosopher.

QUIZ GROUP

We are a group of people who love quizzing and we meet once a month. You come when you can, no fixed teams, randomly selected on the day which means we mix & make new friends learning a lot in the process. Our Question Masters are volunteers from the group who set the questions when they can fit it in to their busy schedules. We usually meet in the Football Clubhouse.

SOLOS

Some of our ladies get together for a regular chat. During our monthly meetings, we usually have a quiz, after the necessary business discussion. We are also going to introduce bingo sessions in October no money involved of course as the Methodist church won't allow gambling and drinking in the church or hall. If we have time we end our meetings with gentle exercises.
On the Sunday following our meeting, we have lunch at a restaurant within a 10-mile radius if possible.
We have a day trip at the end of the month which weather permitting is most enjoyable.

ORIGAMI GROUP

Unfortunately, due to lack of numbers, this group has folded.
